Ford Wellness Car Yoga To De-Stress
A little while ago I was working with Ford Canada on their Bliss Behind The Wheel, Ford Wellness campaign here in Edmonton. Helping drivers de-stress and find a bit of wellness behind the wheel.
I love this initiative, because in our busy every day lives it can seem daunting to add ANOTHER thing to our to do lists. Of course I'm all for going to a yoga or meditation class, but sometimes there aren't enough hours in the day.
Additionally we live in a world that has so many demands on us. We are constantly being pulled in a million directions and this adds stress to our minds and bodies like never before. Unfortunately our bodies haven't caught up to technology advances yet and don't really recognize the difference between stress of a job, friend or traffic in comparison to life threatening situations like a bear chasing us. All this stress, all the time can have a toll on our health.
So, I came up with a few tips you can use in the car to help a bit. You are already in the car, so it;s not adding to your schedule any! Some of them are light stretches and the main one is calming the body with breath. This breath can help our bodies relax and send signals to the brain to calm down.
So let's start with before we drive:
- Sit up nice and tall in your seat. imagine reaching the crown of your head to the roof. Put your hands on the steering wheel. Take a big inhale as you push your chest toward the front of the car and then as you exhale round your back, tuck your chin and look to your belly button. Repeat 2-4 times.
- Next sit up tall again. Take a big inhale and as you exhale twist to your left. Look over your left shoulder and hold for 2-4 breaths. Repeat on the other side.
No only do these two stretches help you connect with your body and de-stress through breathing, but it's also stretching lightly to help you shoulder check and see better.
Next, during the drive, while stopped at red lights:
- Put your hands on you stomach. Take a big inhale, let the belly expand with the air, and as you exhale actively pull the belly button in. Repeat 2-4 breaths.
- This breath uses the diaphragm to breathe, which massages a nerve that connects to the "restore and calming" center of the brain.
- Keep eyes open for safety and keep the breath slow so not to get dizzy. Safety is of course number 1 priority.
This breath can be done as driving to, with the hands remaining on the streering wheel. When you feel overwhelmed by traffic possibly, find a breath or two, allowing the exhale to come from the mouth, maybe even a sigh sound. This is very soothing an calming.
Once you've arrived at your destination:
- Sit up tall. Inhale as you draw your shoulder towards your ears, exhale as you push your shoulders back and down away from the ears. Repeat 2-4 times. Notice the softening sensation in the neck and shoulders.
- Sitting up tall, take your left ear to your left shoulder and hold for the stretch 1-3 breaths. Repeat on the other side.
During the drive tension can be created in the neck and shoulders. Whether it be from traffic, road conditions or anything happening in the car. allow a few breaths here to release the tension before going on to your destination to start from a place of calm.
Additional tips:
Leave a little bit of time in your travels. Rushing will only create more tension and stress.
- Take advantage of the car features to help you out. Use the Ford sync for hands free control of music, destinations and phone calls and my personal favourite... heated seats... ha ha

Oh Go Float Yourself - Float House Review
What is floating you ask? This recent trend is gaining popularity and for good reason. It is suuuuper relaxing and in my opinion, one of the ultimate self care "me" times.
This past weekend I had the opportunity to go check out the Float House Edmonton. It was basically pure bliss. But before we get into my review of the Float House, first let's chat about what floating is.
What is a float tank?
Basically it's a tank you lie in with a high salt water content so that you actually float in the water without effort. The tank is enclosed to block out noise, light and basically most sensory stimulation. It's sometimes called a sensory deprivation tank.
The amount of salt that goes into every tank!
What's the point?
By removing the stimulus of noise, light, draft etc the body can go into a deeper state of relaxation and/or meditation.
What if I'm claustrophobic?
This is a REAL question. I 100% have claustrophobia issues. about 5/6 years ago I had my first experience in a tank and it wasn't too bad (I had already done lots of work on my claustrophobia), but I was able to keep the door of the tank open to ease my anxiety. That said the tank I was in was on the smaller side so I found myself not completely relaxed. Personally at Float House Edmonton in particular their tanks are so big that I was completely comfortable and even closed the door all the way .
What do you in there the whole time?
Well, whatever you want to do I guess. Dominic did a great job of explaining some things about being in the tank. He suggested some things like playing in the space a bit, ways to find comfort, doing a body scan or meditation. I personally found it comforting to play around with my positioning a bit, make waves in the water and feel around the walls a bit before coming into a settled position. The great part is that whenever you feel ready you can leave. The tank is in it's pwn room and you can get out and shower whenever you feel you are ready too.
What are the benefits of floating?
There are tons! I go for the relaxation and meditation. But check out the Float Houses #WhyWeFloat page for the best resource on this subject.
So about Float House.
I love the vibe in there. Located just off Whyte Ave it's amazing to come off a busy street into the chill setting. The space is very clean, relaxed and inviting. Sitting down with Dominic, he helped put me at ease about the process, giving me a lot of good tips.
Inviting front reception with the stunning at work.
The amazing intention setting wall.
The room itself is beautiful. A private shower in the room, just outside the tank. It makes it easier to have a cleansing shower before the float and a nice warm shower upon stepping out. There is a few lighting options. You can choose total darkness, which sets on a timer. You set it to total dark and it gives you time to get into the tank and settle before it goes all dark. Additionally you can choose more light or a little bit of light. There are a couple of small holes in the ceiling of the tank that let in the smallest amount of the room light. I chose this option to help keep me oriented.
The tank itself is really large. I'm 5'2" and had lots of space to bounce back and forth from foot to head. Additionally height wise I'm pretty sure I could actually stand up in the tank. So It felt more like floating in a room then a tub.
One of the best parts however is the post float. There is this beautiful room where they encourage you to sit and have some tea, or maybe read, write or reflect. I had a beautiful conversation with Dominic and another floater afterwards. It was like hanging out with long time friends.
Calming and relaxing please to come back to real life stimulus in the post float lounge.
Reading selection in the post float lounge.
Overall, I really love this place. Personally every Sunday I have a morning bath and I think I will be replacing that time once a month with a float.
Have you ever floated?
Love, Jen
36 Hours of Sweat and No Stink - Pure Living Deodorant Review
Have you ever tried switching to a all natural deodorant? I made the switch about two years ago after I learned some staggering statistics regarding the harmful things put into our deodorant and the relation to breast cancers. At first it wasn't good. I will admit. There is a couple week phase as your body sort of detoxes from the chemical filled stuff. But after that, life gets better. I promise!
Since switching I have tried MANY natural deodorants. Some good, some just plain bad. I may however have found the ultimate deodorant from Pure Living. I am not even kidding people. I am a busy mama. I get up at 5:30 am to workout, rush kids to school, teach bootcamps and yoga all day and night, and add all the usual life of a mom (laundry, cooking, boo boo kissing and basically everything else am I right?). I have found in the past, about 1/2 way into my day, I start to smell a bit. I either just let myself smell or need to reapply.
Well, let me tell you a little something. I put this deodorant to THE TEST yesterday. Let me set the scene:
Tuesday evening I come home from teaching hot yoga, shower and sleep.
Wednesday morning apply deodorant after being up early with a sick kid and missing the gym.
Teach bootcamp, pickup kids, make lunch, teach yoga, do a fast and hard leg day workout, meditate, teach two more yoga classes, put kids to bed and pass out on the couch.
I do not shower. (sorry hubby)
Thursday morning 5:30 am head to the gym, back day and 30 minutes on the stairmill (or sometimes referred to as the Death Machine)
Get back home to make breakfast and have coffee.
I DO NOT STINK!!! Yeah re-read that. Seriously guys. I am 100% impressed.
So I think it's safe to safe I 100% recommend this deodorant. And of course another side benefit? They are local to Edmonton! You can support our local city and get a great product. Win - win right? Check out the Pure Living webpage and check back on the blog here for a more reviews of their stuff coming!

Wheatgrass Giveaway!
Two weeks ago I had my laparoscopy surgery for endometriosis. I of course in my natural nature went on a mission ever since to consume everything I could to help me heal. I found Urban Leaf a local to Edmonton wheatgrass farmer. Yes a wheatgrass farmer. How cool is that?
I got a chance to check out their awesome facility in west Edmonton where they are very scientific about growing the perfect wheatgrass as naturally as possible. Hence their phrase "beyond organic". They keep contaminants out and perfectly timed watering the plants for optimal growth and sweetness.
Since wheatgrass is full of antioxidants, vitamins and minerals its the perfect thing for me post surgery to help heal. Boosting the bodies immune system and alkalizing pH levels not only help with healing post surgeries or injuries but every day life to keep us running. I actually even take mine in the afternoon when I normally have that mid afternoon slump where I used to reach for a coffee to give me that extra boost!
Personally I take the shot straight as it comes, but a lot of people mix into smoothies or dilute with a bit of water.
I love that I don't have to take up counter space or have my own juicer to get such a powerful healthy product. And I hear that soon you might also be able to get ginger and tumeric shots too!!!!!
Find Urban Leaf shots through their site or you can also purchase from Glow Juicery Locations, Maka Eatery and Juice Monkey.

Certifications:
Certified Holistic Nutrition Practitioner, Cognitive Approach Practitioner and soon to be 200hr yoga teacher
Where to find Richelle
Richelle has a coaching business is all online.
What are your specialties:
I work with women who struggle with the diet-binge/emotional eating cycle and body image. I’m passionate about empowering them to break free from the diet cycle by changing their rigid thinking and awareness around food.
What got you into fitness?
To be completely honest, what got me into fitness was a disordered relationship with food and my body. I saw it as a way to control my body. That being said, I discovered how much I actually love moving my body and my favourite way to do that has changed over the years as I improved my relationship with my body. Now it’s all about being strong, longevity and feeling good! I discovered heavy lifting through Crossfit, which was a different mentality for me as I’d always been stuck in trying to make my body smaller and therefore weaker. With yoga specifically, I started practicing to help me calm my nervous system down as I was in phase 3 Adrenal Dysfunction from years of overexercising and being stuck in the diet-binge cycle. I discovered that it had so much more to offer and during a class was the first time I ever experienced really being in my body and feeling good. This hooked me and I continued my journey with yoga during my process of healing my relationship with my body.
What/Who is your biggest motivation?
My biggest motivation these days is just wanting to live a good life and be able to do the things I love as I age. In my day job I work with a lot of seniors and can see the affects of not moving well. I want to continue to move as best I can as I age. I also want to feel really connected to my body, which is why sometimes I just drop a dance party in the kitchen and that may be my form of movement for the day. I used to use exercise to disconnect, but now I really love to balance that out with movement that allows me to go inwards too.
What are some of your favourite exercises/equipment?
After years of distance running I have developed a real love for strength training. I love deadlifts, squats, pullups and pushups. When I was so focused on being thin, I was really weak and couldn’t do a pullup or pushup to save my life. Now I love being bigger, stronger and more capable.
What is your favourite outdoor activity?
Hiking or backpacking in the mountains! Something I really want to try outdoors is MovNat, but Edmonton has yet to get any instructors that I am aware of!
What is your favourite indoor activity?
Yoga, which can obviously be done outdoors too, and of course strength training.
Any advice you’d like to give to other women?
Be honest with yourself about why you choose the type of exercise you do. It’s important to come from a place of love instead of fear with everything in life, including movement. If you are afraid of gaining weight and using exercise to control your weight, burn calories or punish yourself for eating, this is an unhealthy relationship. Choose movement based on how fun it is, how empowered it makes you feel and how energized you feel after it.

The Art Of Slowing Down
This post has been a long time coming. Since I graduated from yoga teacher training I've been reading more and more about basically doing less and it meaning more. A big epiphany hit me about a year and a half ago when I was attending a restorative yoga teacher training. We had discussions about the science behind relaxing the body and what it does to our physical and mental states. Legitimately you can increase your sex drive and loose weight just by relaxing!
I've got your attention now don't I?
Of course it's not as simple as just relaxing once and miraculously you loose 5lbs or want to jump on your partner, but allowing the body to come out of it's high stressed out state and turn off the "mama bear on attack" hormones let's our bodies restore. Come back to a place of resting, digesting our food and pleasure. If you want more info about these things I highly recommend you read/learn basically anything from Michele Theoret from Empowered Yoga.
Since this training I have been on a mission to help share self care. Taking care of yourself actually and truly is not a luxury. Taking care of yourself is bringing you into the "restore" mode. A time for your body to recharge of course, but if you followed along on my Self Care Sunday blog posts for a while, a theme I often had was that you put your phone away. Rest your mind. Because as I said in the Simple Bath post, are you really feeling relaxed in the bathtub as you scroll Facebook? (Especially when that one irritating friend is on a status update rampage).
I say something in my yoga classes all the time too. After we put in some work and some stretching I like to almost always end in a lying twist of some sort where I cue "and move your arms and legs in any way that is comfortable and relax the muscles". Like really relax the body physically. Basically no effort given. Because we are super amazing at multi tasking and doing all the things and being busy, but we SUCK at relaxing and slowing down.
I wont even exclude myself from this. I am totally a hyopcrite a bit here. I am the master of doing all the things and so busy I sometimes feel as if I have missed days or weeks in time. I'm working on it. And that's exactly it. We don't have to be perfect at it or rigidly follow a schedule. We just have to be mindful. Mindful that we have made ourselves so busy that we aren't even relaxing.
I am a week and a half post surgery and have basically been home most of the time. I thought I would be going crazy from boredom, but in reality? I've slowed down enough to enjoy things. I've slowed down enough to enjoy the moment of laughter with my kids. I've slowed down enough to evaluate the things I do that make me so busy.
Sit for a moment. Think about everything that has lead you up to this moment today. All your errands or tasks. Pick out the moments that have you brought you joy. Not something you are "working on" in order to get you to joy. By this I mean, you worked an extra couple hours so you could make more money to buy more things that bring you joy. Not that. That's a false idea of joy I think. What had happened in your day where you felt true joy?
THAT is the art of slowing down. Finding those smaller moments of joy sprinkled throughout your day. Isn't that what we are after anyways? Feeling good. Feeling the joy?
I recently read the book "Mindfulness" by Gil Hasson where it talks about of course we need goals. Things we are working toward are not bad things at all. Gil says "But for longer term goals, the emphasis is not on where you will arrive at, it's on what happens and what you experience along the way. The emphasis is more on the experience rather than the result."
Lightbulb! Slowing down, taking note of whats happening in the current moment IS the joy.
I work to make money. I make money to pay bills and buy things. I buy things I enjoy. I enjoy these things because they bring me joy. Brief joy or maybe it's prolonged, but none the less seeking joy. But what if in the process or working, making money and buying we are miserable? WHAT IS THE POINT OF THAT?!?!?
Slow down, evaluate and be mindful of what we are doing and if it's filling the "doing" side of the column or the "enjoying".
Again, I'm a hyopcrite a bit here and great at being buys, but about to go back into my regular schedule after time off for my surgery, I'm taking a really good look at what the hell it is I am adding back in. Is this important to me? Does it bring me joy?
Easier said then done I feel, hence the word "art". The ART of slowing down.

What's A Mala Anyways?
Mala’s have become very popular lately. They look gorgeous but they also can serve a function.
What are the made from?
Many different materials are used in the making of mala’s. I’ve seen beads made from animal bone, different stones and rocks.
Mine here is from Mala and Me made from black onyx. "Black Onyx assists with challenges in life, especially those caused by a drain of energy. This stone can help you to feel comfortable within yourself and in your surroundings. Black Onyx is said to promote self-control helping the wearer to keep excessive emotions and passions under control, while keeping you protected."
What are they used for?
They can be worn with the intention of the stones/gems they are made from protecting/helping you. Traditionally malas have been used in helping meditation. Using the beads on the necklace to help repeat an intention or a point of focus in meditation.
I had surgery on Monday and since I have been spending time meditating on healing. With each bead I repeat to myself over and over "I am healing and healthy".
Why 108 beads?
I've heard many reasons behind the 108 beads. The number 108 comes up in many ways, including even the fact that the suns diameter is exactly 108 times the size of the earth's.
My super sweet bracelete from Eliasz and Ella
What about the bracelets?
I also love bracelets. I think they look pretty stacked on wrists with different colours, but I use them for quick little reminders. While I'm waiting in the car to pick up my daughters from school or while I'm teaching and people are laying in Savanasa. A moments to align with my intentions for myself and my day. Sometimes I use no mantra and just use it to count a few deep breaths.
The mystery of the mala solved.

Fitness Gear Review - True Life Fitness
There is a newer fitness clothing line right here in Edmonton named True Life Fitness and I've got my hands on a pair of the pants they first launched the Blaire Legging! These are super fun and well you know me... I LOVE to support local business.
The first time I wore these I wore them to teach hot yoga, and yeah I was sold for a number of reasons. Probably my favourite being that I was dry minutes after teaching and sweating. After I teach I rarely ever change and usually just take me and my wet clothes home in my car. Which can be uncomfortable especially when it's cold out! I noticed that within minutes of coming out of the hot yoga room all covered in sweat, my pants were dry! No uncomfortable walk out into the cold air and drive home!
I was worried about the zipper in the back and doing anything where I would be laying on my back. I didn't even notice the zipper to be honest. Wasn't in my way at all. Which is great because I also LOVE having a pocket in pants for keys or music as I workout.
The top waistband is the bigger control design type. I like that I feel supported in the "mommy tummy" area without it digging in. Sometimes I find the tops of pants kind of roll over when I'm doing yoga specifically, but these stayed put through all my vinyasas.
Now I'm not normally one to wear light colored pants, but paired with a neutral shirt I felt comfortable. I've got the whole black widow look going for me some days so I probably SHOULD add some colour to my life. I had a lot of people ask me about them and compliment them too. I guess maybe I would avoid wearing them during "that time". (Sorry I am so TMI).
Overall I feel supported as I wear them, but without it being too tight I cant actually move.
BUT the BEST part.......... k not about the actual pants but $2 from every purchase goes to Women Win helping support women get involved in sports! How amazing is that?!?!?

Slow The F*ck Down
I’ve seen many friends were in Empowered Yoga’s Restorative Teacher Training this weekend and it reminded me of when I took it last year. A weekend filled of conversations and mini naps. It was wonderful. I learned a lot about stress and restoring my mind and body. Since then, it’s most of what I find myself reading about.
Since that training I have added restorative yoga to my own practice a lot, tail ends of vinyasa practices I teach and to the athletes I teach. There are many benefits to restorative yoga.
This post isn’t exactly about that though.
It’s about the fact that we generally SUCK at slowing down.
In conversation with my close entrepreneur and work from home mom friends just today in fact, we were all sharing how we have been sick. Sick, injured, brain fogged etc. We have all been going a million miles an hour and run ourselves into the ground.
You don’t even have to be a bad ass entrepreneur like my friends. We all hustle in our own way. We’ve come to a time in the year we need to rest and restore and what do we do?
Make ourselves busier. This concert and that party. This person’s perfect gift and that stressful family situation. Volunteer. Help out at school. Take on extra work to make a bit more money. Blah blah fucking blah.
So back to the fact that we SUCK I repeat we SUCK at slowing down. Even if we say to ourselves “I’m going to rest this weekend”. Maybe we end up watching tons of scary movies (and not really relaxing the body) or binge eating popcorn or drinking too much wine and feel the guilt about it all?
Sound like anyone you know??!?!?
We HAVE to be intentional about rest. Plopping ourselves on the couch simply isn’t enough for our busy ass lives anymore. Put the effort into properly relaxing the body and be mindful of “relaxing activities” and how they ACTUALLY make us feel.
Let’s take the example of A Simple Bath, a self care blog post I wrote a while ago. I gave a few tips for making it more relaxing, the big one being TURN OFF YOUR PHONE! Does Facebooking in the tub actually relax you? Like actually? Or do you get irritated every time you see so and so’s post and then that sneaky stress creeps up without you ever noticing? It’s super sneaky like that.
So you ask me, how Jen? Just how do I become intentional in my rest?
PLAN. Plan it. Know on these days you are turning off the tv or drawing yourself a bath or going for a massage.
CHECK IN. Check in with yourself during said activity. Just because you are doing something that’s “relaxing” doesn’t mean you are. How do you feel? What could make you feel better?
GIVE GUILT THE MIDDLE FINGER. Yeah. This is the sneakiest of sneaky stressors I think. Especially if you are a mother. That Mom guilt is something from out of this world. Taking time to rest and restore is NOT A LUXURY. I repeat NOT A LUXURY. It is a KEY link in your survival! Think of it that way, because it’s the honest to goodness truth. Then treat it that way.
Love,
Jen
Trusting I Am Where I Need To Be
At the end of my yoga classes I usually have a quote or a little something to say to the group about whats on my mind or some sort of self loving thought. This morning in my class at the end I said something along the lines of "trust that you are exactly what/who and where you are suppose to be in your life." The idea being that we trust all of our decisions that have lead us up to this point and our situations are a product of our own doing. Now that concept might piss you off a bit if things aren't happening exactly as you wish in the current moment. And for that I am sorry.
BUT the resolution in this thought is profound and couldn't have come to my mind on any better of a day. I've had two fairly major things come up today. Big changes that can be upsetting or disappointing.
But today I am smiling. I actually feel the best I have in a few days. These negative situations could have ruined my day, but I'm thinking about how positively these things actually change my world.
Today, because its the day we can actually control, maybe we all just take a moment to trust we are WHO/WHAT/WHERE we all need to be. What if we weren't worrying so much about what may be or how we could improve and we just decided to be in the moment and love it?

Self Care Sunday - "Going Dark"
"Going Dark" - As in social media free days.
I realize I've already struck panic into your body as I say "social media free". Palms are getting a bit sweaty and heart is starting to race. But what do you mean Jen? Why would I do that? And why the hell is that a self care thing?
It's a self care for many reasons.
Let's start with the fact that most social media is a time suck. It drains minutes/hours from our days with no productivity or real satisfaction. Leaving us with our to do list still unchecked and time drained from things you could have been doing otherwise. (Okay enough of the guilt trip Jen)
Next, we usually scroll through staring at people's awesome photos of girls nights, parties, new cars, kid's early development milestones, gorgeous new haircuts, abs and whatever else that makes us ourselves feel slightly inadequate/jealous in the moment. How does that serve us positively?
Finally, and I think most importantly, it consumes our thoughts. Whether we are aware of it or not. We see 500 images images of women with purple lipstick and all of a sudden it's ingrained in our minds we like purple lipstick. Seriously. That's how it works. We consume every billboard, Facebook ad and t.v commercial without even really thinking about it. (THAT is a whole other post). Taking time away from these things helps us reconnect with what it is WE like and what WE find beautiful.
Last weekend I was in a 3.5 day mediation teacher training weekend and we were told not to have our phones in the room, and suggested even restricting social media in the evenings of these days. I took it seriously and "went dark" for 3 days. I deleted Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat and Facebook messenger off my phone.
Since it was meditation teacher training, we were obviously meditating a lot and I had time to think about what it is I like and I want without interruption. I felt quite rejuventated and once I got over the habit times of picking up my phone it was quite comfortable. I realized also sometimes I was picking up my phone just to avoid certain sensations (like embarassment or awkwardness) and I had to kind of overcome those, rather then run from them.
Sooooooo this week for self care is being away from social media. Maybe a day, maybe a couple, maybe a week. Now of course I realize many people have jobs on social media, don't worry I have suggestions for you too.
Tips on "going dark":
- Delete the apps from your phone. Not being able to see those notifications wont tempt you to look.
- Make a status. In case you know people communicate with you there. Make a status and anyone that needs your number can message you and get it.
- Find yourself bored in a line up at the bank? Chat with the person next to you! "Hey I like your shoes" or "chilly today!" are good conversation starters.
- For my social media managing friends. It's unlikely you can go completely "dark" BUUUUUUT you can schedule posts on certain outlets. (Which I know most of you know).
- Log in to facebook pages through the Facebook Page Manager app rather then your personal account. Be there just for the work.
- Still find yourself scrolling through IG and "liking pictures to create relationships" for your business? Set a timer on your phone before you log in. 10 minutes you should be able to be in and out with posting your thing, a few comments and likes a long the way. This by the way, if you really need a selling point my social media peeps, is a time saving strategy, making you more productive and staying on target with the task!
- Fun bonus: keep a journal of those times you would have pulled out your phone for and did instead. Example: At a redlight (guilty), instead I sang a song at the top of my lungs. Example: Waiting outside of the school to pickup kids, instead I chatted with another mom.
Maybe plan a time you know you can be a little slower or just say "fuck it" and pick a date. Plan how many days you are "going dark" and stick to it.

Self Care Sunday - Try A New Fitness Class
Us trying out Xtend Barre
This week on my Facebook Page and Instagram I've been talking a lot about doing things outside of our comfort zones. Trying something new and bold and maybe even out of character. I even had a friend message me on Twitter about how she went out of her comfort zone and tried a hot yoga class and loved it. Maybe it's that fall air, but everyone seems to be ready to stir things up. I'm not much into astrology, but I'm sure there's shift in some moons or something causing it! Ha ha.
So this, week's Self Care seemed fitting to be trying out a new fitness class. I will be trying to right about some local places here (leave me a comment here on on my media channels about where I should try!), but in the meantime I have a few great ideas.
- You can head to your local gym. I personally may be so inclined to invite you to come to a World Health Club (ahem) and try a class. Or many. I love the variety from step classes, lifting classes, Zumba, yoga, spin, or kickboxing etc etc etc!
- I also wrote this blog post about trying out a barre class at a local place called Xtend Barre, if you are wondering what that is all about.
- At your local community league you might find Yoga, Zumba or Tai Chi.
- Call up a martial arts dojo and inquire about a drop in class.
- Check out a Cycle Studio.
- Maybe try out a dance class!
Whatever you are thinking about trying, or have always wondered about, just try it this week. Jump with both feet in. Many places offer free classes for the first time or a special weekly drop in rate for first timers.
To help maybe ease the anxiety, see if a friend or family member want to go with you. I bet you more people than you think have been wondering what pole workouts are all about.
Also.... let's think about using wording like "I need more practice" and "this is a new way to move my body" then the usual things that come out of our mouths like "I suck at this" or "I'm out of shape". It's self love people, not a new way of finding self hate. We get enough of that, don't ya think?
Definitely come back and tell me how it went! Send me a message on my FB, Twitter or IG! I'd love to hear how you took a step outside of your comfort zone.
Love,
